More than fifty years of tennis, padel and community in Benicarló. A history written by its members, its boards of directors and the hundreds of people who have made the Club a place to meet, play and enjoy.

1972 – 1979

The 1970s — Founding and first courts

1972

Thirty people meet in Benicarló to found Club de Tenis Benicarló (C.T.B.).

Mr. Cristóbal Colón de Carvajal is elected as the first President.

The land at Ctra. de Calig Km 4, the future home of the Club, is purchased.

1973

The Board of Directors is renewed. Mr. Manuel Lleixá Martinez is elected new president.

A member recruitment policy begins.

1974

Official opening of the Club's facilities (2 concrete courts).

The first Ciudad de Benicarló tournament is held.

Membership reaches 150.

1976

The Club focuses on financing the construction of the Clubhouse, the swimming pool and the clay courts.

The Board is renewed. President: Mr. José M. Febrer Callis.

Foundation-stone ceremony for the new facilities.

1978

Construction of the Clubhouse and frontón 1 is completed.

A new clay court project begins, with grant applications to public bodies.

1979

The Board is renewed. President: Mr. Bautista Sorlí Arnau.

A new clay court, a children's playground and the perimeter fence are completed.

1981 – 1990

The 1980s — Consolidation

1981

All courts are fitted with lighting.

The Basque pelota section is created.

Two clay courts are built and the swimming pool is completed.

First tennis coach hired: Mr. Oscar Borrás.

The first Frontenis Open is held.

1982

Construction of the second frontón.

1983

The Board is renewed. President: Mr. José M. Febrer Bosch.

New direction at the Tennis Academy. Coach: Juan Fco. Oms.

The Tennis Academy is established. Director: Mr. Marquez.

1984

First collapse of the frontón due to strong winds.

First team entry at the regional level.

Refurbishment of the locker rooms.

1985

The Board is renewed. President: Mr. Miguel Arín Albiol.

Refurbishment of frontóns 1 and 2.

1986

First Interclub matches and frontenis team competing officially.

1987

The Board is renewed. President: Mr. Vicente Borrás Esteller.

The "transient member" status is formally introduced.

First women's championship.

The first Members' Day is established.

1988

Garden area expanded. Car park and entrance gate refurbished.

Automatic irrigation installed on all courts.

1990

A badminton court is fitted out.

First team promotion at regional level: the under-12s move up to the 2nd Division.

1991 – 1999

The 1990s — Growth

1991

The Board is renewed. President: Mr. Salvador Gregori Ortí.

New locker rooms are built.

1992

Agreement between C.T.B. and the Town Hall to jointly host swimming courses.

New operating model for the Tennis Academy.

Refurbishment of the concrete court.

1993

Expense-freeze policy.

Elena Caldés voted best athlete of 1992 in Benicarló.

New direction at the Tennis Academy. Coach: Juan Ramón Juanola.

A van is purchased to transport Academy students.

A gym is acquired.

1994

New direction at the Tennis Academy. Coach: Juan Domingo Pascual.

Best player of the Club: Miguel Vallés Ferrer.

1995

The Board is renewed. President: Jorge Palacios García.

Income and expenditure planning is overhauled.

The competition structure is reworked.

New direction at the Tennis Academy. Coach: Ginés Pérez Martínez.

Best player of the Club: Miguel Vallés Ferrer.

1996

Member recruitment campaign and a push for the Tennis Academy.

The U-12, Senior Men's and Senior Women's teams are promoted to the 2nd Division.

Best player of the Club: Vicente Fresquet Escuder.

1997

Refurbishment of the Clubhouse.

A new clay court is built.

Best player of the Club: Vicente Fresquet Escuder.

1998

The Internal Rules are amended.

A new Electoral Regulation is drafted.

Elena Caldés voted best athlete of the year in Benicarló.

Best player of the Club: Vicente Fresquet Escuder.

1999

Second collapse of the frontón due to strong winds.

The Board is renewed. President: Mr. Jorge Igual Marzá.

A padel court is built.

Ignacio Vicente Fibla voted best athlete of the year in Benicarló.

Best player of the Club: Mr. Vicente Fresquet Escuder.

2000 – 2003

The 2000s — Modernisation

2000

A squash court and a mini-tennis court are built.

Lighting installed in the Club's gardens.

Best player of the Club: Carlos Monfort García.

2001

Change of management at the Club's bar-restaurant, very well received by members and the public.

New terraces (upper and lower) built next to the bar and the Clubhouse.

Best player of the Club: Alfonso Febrer Roig.

2002

Full overhaul of the tennis-court lighting.

The bar's bathrooms are completely renovated.

Best player of the Club and best athlete of the year in Benicarló: Sara Celma Boix.

2003

The swimming-pool filtration system is fully renewed.

New Board elections. President: Mr. Francisco Celma Tena.

Best player of the Club: Alfonso Febrer Roig.

Refurbishment of the Clubhouse begins.
